Supporting the best games that the pc market has to offer
One of the most important aspects of releasing new hardware is how much software it supports. If you look at the trend for video game systems you will see that the game systems with the best software support, sold the best. NES, SNES, PSX, PS2, Wii, All Nintendo handhelds. There is no doubt that software sells hardware. It's not only Nintendo's philosophy but it is the philosophy adapted by companies like Apple.
There are a number of important computer games that Icuiti should try and get support for. While all game genres will ultimately work on visors, most hardcore gamers who purchase visors buy them to play FPS and action games. I don't know what is supported already so I am just going to make a list (in no particular order) of what I think should be supported:
World of Warcraft (and expansions) - People play games like this to immerse them into the universe of WoW. Obviously that is what vr attempts to do. An obvious choice.
Half-Life 2 (and episodes) - Half-Life 2 is arguably one of the biggest and best FPS games on the PC. With amazing visuals and storytelling, a visor would help futher immerse you into the world of Gordon Freeman.
Crysis - Do I need to tell you why? This is going to be the biggest and most important pc game, probably until 2009. Hardcore gamers are going to upgrade their rig for this game. I played it and the game features the best visuals of any game out there. Another obvious choice.
Indigo Prophecy (A.K.A: Fahrenheit) - This game is now a couple years old but don't let that scare you away. In my personal opinion, this is one of the most immersive games to date. It plays out like an amazing novel. Check out my review of this game to see why it needs to get some TLC.
Unreal Tournament 3 - The Unreal Tournament series has always been amongst the best, fast paced shooting games available on the pc. A great, immersive title.
Clive Barkers: Undying - Another oldie, this immersive title delivers a horror story unlike any game out there. It is one of the best FPS horror games of all time.
Halo & Halo 2 - Halo and Halo 2 were the best selling games on the Xbox and both feature some of the best science fiction storytelling around.
Gears of War - Another new game, Gears of War was one of the best selling Xbox 360 games and delivered a creep and very immersive experience. Now it's on the PC and again received a high score.
Stalker (and expansion) - Another creepy first person shooter which has you fighting monsters in the bowls of Chernobyl. Immersive design.
The Longest Journey/The Longest Journey: Dreamfall - Both of these games are amongst the best adventure games available on the PC.
Alan Wake - This game isn't out yet. That being said, it is being developed by the creators of Max Payne. Remedy studios has showcased several trailers for the game which is poised to become a number one best selling game. The game looks amazing. It tells the tale of a horror writer whose stories start to become reality. You need to support this game.
Heavy Rain - This game is also not available yet but it's being developed by the creators of Indigo Prophecy and apparently the game is suppose to feature some of the most immersive storytelling, visuals and character animations to date. Another showpiece for VR.
Far Cry 2 - The original Far Cry was a benchmark for computer gaming. Almost all hardcore gamers had this game. Far Cry is it's sequel so you know it's going to be a good one.
Microsoft Flight Simulator X (with expansion) - The best flight simulator game to date. Need anymore of description then that?
There are two things to consider when looking for support for a game. They are:
1. When collectively adding support for PC games with Icuiti products, you want to first try and get support for the best selling games.
2. You want games that are generally immersive by design. You want games that showcase why gamers want/need virtual reality.
This is a list of a handful games Icuiti should work on getting support for. Software sells hardware, that is a fact and for the most part, common sense.
Another thing that Icuiti should consider is support for the Linux operating system. Linux is a computer operating system quickly gaining ground on Microsoft's Windows platform with many people suspecting that it could very well become a major player in computing down the road and of course considering Linux is free, many people are happy to try it out. A video of Linux:

Why did I bring up Linux? Well because Linux is completely open source and almost everything developed in Linux is done by a huge community. It would be wise to try and get free community support for Icuiti products. There are a few games for Linux made by regular users, you could easily help get some of those games and their respective communities to support Icuiti visors. Perhaps release an open source software development kit for Linux users to work on projects for the Icuiti visors. Anyways I hope these suggestions are useful. Maybe I will add more later on sometime.

"It's convenient to make games that are played on TVs," Miyamoto is quoted as saying. "But I always wanted to have a custom-sized screen that wasn't the typical four-cornered cathode-ray-tube TV. I've always thought that games would eventually break free of the confines of a TV screen to fill an entire room. But I would rather not say anything more about that." -Miyamoto |
