I'm afraid that I have to report problems with Vista on two separate PCs, one running Vista Ultimate and the other Vista Home Premium. These are my only Vista installations -- my other PCs run XP but are being used to drive my cockpit with projectors and Matrox Triplehead2Go.

The Monitor program generates an empty Vista Security window which never draws. The whole PC is then quite difficult to use -- very slow and no new programs opening correctly -- until the security warning is closed from the Task bar (it won't close from its X button). The same thing occurs if it is allowed to run on start-up.

I have downloaded the updated drivers from this site, but upon execution of the supplied Setup EXE program under Vista it immediately crashes with the usual Vista message saying the Installer has stopped execution.

The documentation supplied implies that the views in the Vuzix can be as a second monitor, but every time I try this I merely get a blank black/grey screen in the goggles. I only get a view if the video drivers are set to cloning, which is a shame considering my main screen resolution is 1920 x 1200!

It looks like my unit, purchased at the AVSIM FANCON in Bellevue this last weekend, will remain on my shelf until you manage to sort the Vista issues out.

It is also most disappointing that there are no 3D drivers for Vista. This certainly wasn't information provided at the show!

I shall check back from time to time to see if any progress has been made. I am on holiday now till December 4th, so I will try more tests then and get back with more details should you need them.

Regards

All-

I share this precise problem. I can complete the calibration, but upon launching iMonitor, a windows Vista security window appears, but never completes drawing.

I've found that I am unable to launch any further applications (including the Task Manager, which I'd like to use to kill the Vista security window...) and the machine requires a reboot in order to make any progress.

As long as iMonitor is installed- the machine is effectively rendered useless as the Vista security window pops up, but never completes drawing, so i'm unable to determine the problem being reported- nor am i able to kill the warning.

I've installed on a few vista machines and found the same results on all.

This happens when using 1.0.6....

Hope there is a solution someplace!

I was about to write a message saying it works perfectly well on my computer.

Then I thought, I'd better test it again first.

And sure enough, it did exactly what you described. A window with titlebar "Windows Security" and an icon of a red shield with a white X, appears. It never draws the interior of the window. It just crashes. It does not have the secure desktop background with the darkened screen. It just has an undrawn Windows Security window. The Windows Security appears in task manager applications, but I can't close it, no matter what I do.

This is very strange. I'm pretty sure it didn't do that before. I think it must be due to a windows update or something that broke compatability with it.

I haven't tested iWearMonitor much because I don't have any of the games it supports.

You can use the VR920 as a secondary monitor though. Just go into nvidia control panel, or display settings and choose to extend your desktop onto that monitor. Just make sure the resolution and refresh rate of that monitor are set to either 640x480 60Hz, 800x600 60Hz, or 1024x768 60Hz.

If you want to play a game that supports either TrackIR or mouse look, then you can download my GlovePIE program from these forums. It works fine on vista if you run it as administrator. Actually it works fine even if you don't run it as administrator, but then you can't send mouse or keyboard to a fullscreen game.

Here is how to fix the problem.

When the evil Security Window pops up, press Ctrl+Alt+Del. Go to the processes tab. Kill the "iWearMonitor.exe".

The Security Window will then draw itself properly as though nothing had happened. It is the window you get when you try to install an unsigned device driver.

"Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software

The driver you are attempting to install does not have a valid digital signature that verifies who published it, and could potentially be malicious software. You should only install driver software from publishers that you trust. ..."

Say YES, you do want to install the device driver. It will install.

Run iWearMonitor again. This time it will work!

Carl, you beautiful genius you!

I've created walkarounds for this problem, which I've been sharing, but yours takes 1/10th the time, and is infinitely more elegant! Thank you so much.

I haven't been able to get it to work in Second Life though, which is the only game on the list that I have. So I don't know if that means my trick didn't work, or if there is just something wrong with the way I set up Second Life.
