I have been looking on ebay and there is an item listed as "VuZix VR920 Icuiti iWear Video 3D Eyewear ". Reading the forums it seems that the older models seem to have more problems - tracking, black spots, etc.

If I buy an older version (icuiti) and it has problems - can I get it fixed/replaced? Does upgrading the firmware fix the issues?

Any advice appreciated!

Hi paco,

if you buy a used set of glasses, you're always at risk of malfunction of whatever kind. I have bought one on ebay myself (one of the early "ICUITI" labeled), but I knew that it was defective, and with much help of the forum members and the support team (thanks again, Todd!) I managed to repair it. Firmware and software upgrade was never a problem, tracking is always (at least in front of a CRT monitor). I could also have the glasses repaired by vuzix (they offered me a very reasonable rate), but shipping costs from Germany are extremely high so I decided to repair it on my own.

So if you live on the right side of the big pond, you might go for a used one but maybe you should contact the customer support about warranty limitations before. If you live in Europe or down under or simply if you want to be on the safe side, then I would definitely advocate to buy a new unit.

Hope this helps,
Xeno
