Hopefully I upgrade my gaming rig and Crysis started to run on my PC fluently on maximum settings.
And of course I started to play it with my VR920, and what can I say...
It's really great stuff to play with!

Default iWear stereo settings doesn't work good for me (it was very hard to aim), so I experimented with them and here is the best result I've reached (edit values of VR920Dx9Stereo.cfg):

Method=5, IPD_View=0.015,IPD_Menu=0.00,Manual_VSync=0,Locking=0,QueryGPU=1,LogFile=0,AutoIPD=0, ExpMax=0.11, ExpRate=0.001, ExpPoint=0.10

Also, I changed game's FOV in order to get more immersive visual. Default game FOV is 75 degrees, VR920's FOV is 32 degree, but using 32 degree FOV in game - make it very hard to play. So I found, that is best for myself setup FOV to 50 degrees.

For this you can open console in game by pressing "~" button, and type:
con_restricted=0
cl_fov=50

For non-jittering headtracking I used GlovePie, if you have no jitter with default VR920 tracking then you can use it.
Hope this info would be useful for somebody, and you will enjoy play Crysis in VR920 as I did

P.S. I still thinking how can I use my gamepad or P5-Glove to increase immersion...

Thanks alot for your contribution! This sure will help alot. I would recommend you to look at the Novint Falcon hapt-X device gamepad which i believe will increase the realism and immersion by a great deal. . . There even is a special pistol grip just for games like crysis and half-life

Thanks! I'm surely will try Falcon, saw they're demonstration looks great!

Also, I want to add a few words about Crysis, now is summer time, and I have pretty high temperature in my room, so for everybody who plays Crysis, you can now chill your VR920 by setup game in 640 x 480 mode. I believe that in this mode VR920 not use it's re-scale capabilities (some chip maybe), and it can stay cool for a long periods of time without "overheating".

To setup Crysis in 640 x 480, found "game.cfg" file, it's located in ...My Documents\My Games\Crysis\ folder (Win XP).
Open file and find these lines:

r_Height = XXX
r_Width = XXX

Where XXX - is your current resolution.
Set them to 640 and 480

r_Height = 480
r_Width = 640

The same works for Crysis Warhead.
Good luck!

Hey mnemonic,
I've seen some comments you've made of the VR920. I'm getting mine soon. I'm planning on buying the iz3d license for the hmd to complement vuzix's drivers. Can you give me any recommendation to have the best experience possible? I have a Mobility FireGL v5200 on one laptop, a geforce 130M on another laptop and in the future I might use a desktop computer with either a Geforce 7950 or a newer ATi 4870/Nvidia GTX 285. It all depends, as I have high hopes on iz3d for the future.

Hello, sorry but every time I tried trial iz3d drivers for VR920 on both mine PC (GeForce 9800 GT) & Laptop (Radeon 2600) I had very poor result, or there were too many bugs or they're don't work at all, so I didn't bought them for that reason. Maybe in future, with new version of iz3d drivers I will change my decision, now I play games with Vuzix driver (d3d8.dll & d3d9.dll) and have very good results in the games I prefer.

Also, I'm using VR920 in my own applications & experimental software and I'm very glad about them in this role, using Vuzix SDK I can control each eye separately to make stereo or represent other effects, I cannot make anythig like this using other customer-niche devices like IZ3D or Nvidia 3DVision.

About videocard, if you will get 7950 GeForce - you will receive really great stereo support for most old games, but for new one such as Crysis, possibly it would be better to get newer & more powerful videocard & use it with Vuzix driver. So, It's for you to decide, when I was updating my old PC I was moved from GeForce 6600, to 9800 GT, I lost support for many old games (mostly OpenGL) but I don't regret. I hope Vuzix will bring new products soon & update software for VR920 also, personally I looked forward to try both Wrap AV920 & VR1440, but well see

From my side main pros & cons of VR920 in following:

pros:
- good resolution (however it would be better more for some tasks)
- great tracking (many peoples complain about tracking, it works just great for me)
- great stereo
- small size (pocket one)
- ergonomic (for me, some people don't like the design)
cons:
- In summer overheating became a problem, so I need to turn off device to chill it down
- There's no "Turn off" button, so I need to shut it down by unplugging USB chord
- not very big FOV (sometimes you want to make it bigger)

But nevertheless I like the unit very much and use it often, and main plus of this system - it really can give you immersion when you properly setup all the stuff.

Recomendations... well, I tried recomendations of Carl Kenner and tried something by myself.
In general - try to play on foot with vibration-feedback gamepad, use eyeshields, turn off the light.
You can also put a laptop to backpack so no cables will interfere you.
Experiment with different games, learn how to create scripts for GlovePIE, and you will not regret I suppose

My very first total immersion was with such kind of setup with UnrealTournament4, then Crysis, FSX (you can sit for this one ), Mirrors Edge (without stereo but good enough), with my own projects.

If you will need a help with some setup, write here on forums or PM me, I will try to help.

P.S. strange, I started to write big posts lately...

Thanks for the tips and overall review of the VR920. I will follow your suggestions and I'm going to try the iz3d drivers. If it comes to enabling one or two important applications in stereo, that the vuzix drivers can't handle and the iz3d can, I will most likely buy the license.

I'll get to work as soon as I get them. I'll check out glovePIE with a wiimote and several apps. I'll post any relevant results. Thanks for your help. I really don't mind reading long posts, as long as they're as informative as yours.

BTW,is there any way to use the VR920 with OpenGL apps? (OpenGL isn't supported in Vuzix drivers, right) Or do they only work with Geforce series 7 and below? I might just buy a geforce 7950 gx2 for OpenGL and old games, I have to research if the gx2 works well with old nvidia stereo drivers. My options out of eBay would be a single geforce 7950 gx2, a 7900GTX or an SLI of either one. I know that I will run at the most in 1024x768 so that the VR920 just scales down the image. My questions would be:

1. Is it better when possible to run an app/game in 640x480 instead of 1024x768 and let the VR920 scale it down?

2. Should I try to get an SLI configuration to have compatibility with old apps/games and still be able to run newer engines (Although newer games could be very playable at 640x480 and 1024x768, I think), or use a single card solution?

There is no OpenGL driver from Vuzix, however if you a programmer you can implement support of VR920 natively in your OpenGL application.
For games it's only available in old NVidia drivers.

I don't think that getting GX2 would be a good Idea, as I remember it worked full power in SLI mode no?
I tried VR920 on 7950 GT and it worked well with version 174.76 stereo divers and 174.74 forceware.
About SLI - at the bottom of post...

My questions would be:

1. Is it better when possible to run an app/game in 640x480 instead of 1024x768 and let the VR920 scale it down?

You can use re-scale option, it works well, and sometimes gives you better overall quality than 640 x 480, but, if you use re-scale then unit will raise it's temperature quickly, so in winter, autumn or early spring that's not a problem. But in summer it is a problem, VR920 can be very hot.

In early models there was possibility of black dot appearing in the corner of right screen with overheating (then it disappear after VR920 chilled down).
I had 3 VR920 units, one old and two new, old one have problem with black dot, new ones - not.

Generally you cannot use SLI, because SLI doesn't support multi-monitor configuration.
So, if you will use only VR920 but not your monitor - ok, you can use SLI, but Monitor + VR920 (like Monitor+Monitor) wouldn't work with SLI.

I'll get a 7950GT from ebay soon. And I think I'll be able to set everything up.

You mentioned that SLI doesn't work in monitor+monitor mode. Does that mean that if I had an HMD with dual input, it wouldn't work with an SLIed series 7 setup? I know the VR920 is single input, but I'm curious since iz3d mentions that SLI works with their drivers.

Thanks for the info

IZ3D can work with SLI with IZ3D monitor only, why not?
You can check NVidia forums, SLI doesn't support multi monitor till now, however maybe something changed recently, I didn't checked that out.
And yes, if you have SLI and you want to use HMD with dual input, you will need to turn SLI off, otherwise only one monitor (one eye) be supported.

Hey, thanks for all usefull info here. I must ask, how is the realism in crysis? when using the glasses, is it like stepping into the game? Like looking around in real-life? or does the FoV on the glasses need to be bigger for that? Is tracking and stereo working good in crysis with the vr920's? I will be getting my vr920's soon, this autumn can't wait!

Hi, you're welcome! Yes, realism increase greatly, it's harder to aim on big distances, but aiming sights work just great. FOV can be bigger but this is not essence.
Stereo works perfect! Greatly detailed world became like alive, Crysis is one of the greatest examples of what stereo-image could be.
Don't forget to change default stereo-parameters on that I gived in this thread.

I would recommend you to use GlovePIE for tracking, I'm also bind "Q" & "E" buttons on Z - axis of tracker.
Here is the script:
pie.FrameRate = 60Hz
var.roll = VR920.Roll;
var.sensitivity = 800
var.yaw = RemoveUnits(Smooth(VR920.ContinuousYaw,20))/90*var.Sensitivity
var.pitch = RemoveUnits(VR920.Pitch)/90*var.Sensitivity
fakemouse.DirectInputX+=delta(var.yaw)
fakemouse.DirectInputY-=delta(var.pitch)

key.Q = (VR920.Roll<-30);
key.E = (VR920.Roll>30);

Hey all!!

Im gonna try out the Crysis max edition today with your setup Mnem.. I tried the trial of War on my 7800gt Evga card and was shocked it played pretty good. Now on these other systems im running I have the 8600gt 1gb cards. Im sure I wont get all the whistles but if It can play decent and withthe Vr920 in stereo, I think the friends will enjoy. None of them have ever played Crysis so this should be good.

Now I read you said to have the game set in 640x480 mode so the Vr920 doesn't re-scale. I wasn't aware that the Vr got hotter trying to re-scale, good to know. Because the setup I made, I plan on bringing to a local fair that some people we know are doing for a charity, only for a few hours and I wouldn't want  the glasses to over heat and shut down, that would be a bummer. Soon im gonna get a video of some friends playing with the setup and get it up on youtube. I'll post that if I get around to it.

Not many have any setups on youtube doing VR, ginda sad seeing no feedback from others... But once I get the Crysis setup I'll add some thought to this post.

The setup as you know consist of

Win Vista Ultimate 32, 4gig ram, Amd 5000+ cpu, 8600gt 1gig fatality, (2) Vr920's, 3rd space vest, Helmet mod with gun. I like to call it the UVR920 Helmet.

Peace out..

Ku
