I should be getting a VR920 tomorrow or the next day! Yay!

Currently UPS says that my VR920 package is back in Melbourne, after it took an inexplicable one-day holiday to Sydney, and it says it is scanned at a hub. Hopefully that means it will be on its way to Adelaide either now or shortly. I can't wait.

What games do people recommend trying it out with when it arrives?

Are you sure it made that trip? I was thinking mine went a weird way, but turned out one place was just customs handling documents and it was never there, just read the tracking thing wrong

Anyway, I have to wait until tomorrow for mine, I was working when they tried to deliver it and while my bro was here I forgot to leave money for him to pay the VAT and customs costs

Then I think it made that trip to Sydney, but it didn't make the first trip to Melbourne. I think the customs documents went to Melbourne, but the package went to Sydney (from Hawaii). Then the package finally went to Melbourne, having never been there before.

Now my package seems to be in Melbourne, scanning for a husband.

I still don't understand about customs fees and VAT. I don't think I have to pay GST (Goods and Services Tax, probably the same as VAT) because the product was free. 10% of free is still free. Also, when I have bought things online from overseas before, I never had to pay anything extra. I didn't know customs charged a fee. So I am confused. Maybe I should go and withdraw some money.

Well I didn't get one for free Couldn't ask them to put a 0 value on it either seeing how that would be postal fraud which is apparently a capital offense in the USA. Anyway, regardless of it being a gift, you have to declare the real value and here they often open packages to check and see if they agree with the declared value, otherwise they'll just tax it themselves. Also, gifts above a certain value, I think about 30 euro, not quite sure, are always taxed here, so declaring gift has no use.

Ok, I checked www.customs.gov.aụ

As far as I can tell, customs is a free public service for anything valued under $1000, and purchases over the internet are exempt from GST unless they cost more than $1000. And since it is just standard commercial computer hardware, they are highly unlikely to have any significant involvement with the process.

I think everyone was worrying me all for nothing.

You didn't get one for free because you didn't make a program for emulating mouse/joystick/keyboard/TrackIR with VR920 head tracker and microphone (for voice commands), before you got one.

Those ungrateful people at Novint didn't give me a free Falcon , and Nintendo wouldn't even give me the free replacement wrist strap they were legally obligated to give me (and now I have a hole in my ceiling) because I didn't have a Wii to give them the serial number of. So Vuzix are great! Three cheers for Vuzix.

Essential Reality gave me a free P5 glove, but only because I won it in a competition. I had already bought a P5 though, so now I have two VR gloves.

Haha, I'm not complaining you get one for free, you deserve it. Been using GlovePIE with a wiimote for a while, although the wiimote seems to imprecise for most things. A P5 glove I have wanted for a while too but they are not so easy to find now...

If Essential Reality had waited until after the Wiimote came out to release it, then they would have done well. Unfortunately they were released before novel input devices became super cool.

You can still get a P5 Glove from where I got mine years ago (while Essential Reality still existed) at cwonline. Or you can try asking people on the p5glove yahoo group.

My parcel is now officially late. It is finally in Adelaide, but they can't be bothered to get off their arse and deliver it today, so it is scheduled for tomorrow, and no longer listed as "on time". I want my virtual reality now!

Edit: Actually the schedule was wrong. They delivered it just now, so it was on time! I didn't have to wait until tomorrow! That was actually quite speedy. It takes about 6 days, definately not the 6 weeksthat it used to warn you about on the Vuzix web page.

Now I have a shiny new green box ready to open!
