Customer buys - customer demands.

There are few aplications, where VR920 is awsome (REAL PURE FUN) f.e Microsoft flight simulator - iWear monitor has that position so it's supported very well but COD4 is imho not, so telling me that when I see it useless and have no fun with COD4 (when I know how it should works - MFS example) it didn't live up to customer standards is just unwise as well as changing original COD4 files (now I can't play because PB has problem with it - QA hasn't seen it?) . So why it works terrific with MFS but not with COD4? (I did everything which was needed to)

One question to Coldfact: And what about simple AxySnake game? Do You have problems too? Did You try MFS perhaps? Do You have jittering problems with tittles supported by iWear Monitor?

I think, that problem is in GlovePIE. It always jitter in all kind of games. I did small test: GlovePIE with fake mouse script. I've put VR920 on table (so not moving) and what results? Mouse coursor was jittering and moving to left (a little bit up too). Then I set windows mouse speed to MINIMUM. Effects: less jittering but still coursor moving to the left. Is that normal? I don't think so.

So if there isn't jittering in iWear monitor, bugs are in GlovePIE soft.

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter
coldfact (11/15/2008)
I see my reply was removed??!!! Do you have just one video out? If so do you only calibrate with just the vr920 usb cable plugged in and your computer monitor plugged in so you can see what your doing? If so you'll have to plug both cables in when calibrating otherwise when you plug in the vr920 vga cable the yaw gets all messed up. This is what happeded to me and as I don't have the option to plug the LCD screen and the glasses in at the same time I just assumed you were meant to have just the USB cable plugged in when calibrating. Hope this helps because when it works it works really well.
RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

Now I am mad! What happened to freedom of speach? I will post this again and again, so you can try and keep removing my reply but here it goes again.

As the Kevaquel said, there are many many posts on here and elsewhere from people who find the tracking simply unusable! I have no magnetic sources near me, I have gone so far as so buy a very sensitive compass to prove it! Also as Kevaquel says, even although in the calibration tool everything looks fine, as soon as you enable tracking in a game like Crysis, it all goes to hell, absolute rubbish.

As I have also said before, and also in the post that the moderators decided to remove, the Stereoscopic view is great! Also the tracking in the visualiser program from Vusix is great! So why on earth is the tracking within games you claim to support so absolutely dismall??? I have yet to see a post from someone who can play Crysis using the VR920's native tracking....

Instead of lecturing me about the thousands of customers who pay their $200 and DON'T complain, why don't you see if you could actually help THIS customer (and the many other customers who have this same complaint) and actually give some possitive guidance! I know I can take the product back if I want - I'm not an idiot! But I DON'T want to take it back, I want it to work! After all, that is why I bought it, to USE IT!!!!!

Now stop lecturing your customers with silly comments that they already know full well, and release some better firmware or drivers or instructions, because as I have already said, there ARE people who have messed around with the drivers kit and made better drivers than the ones that Vusix produced. Also, your instructions on calibration don't mention that you have to move the iwear VERY slowly, WHY NOT?? Simply mentioning that in the instructions would save everyone a lot of frustration. Do your job as customer services or PR and then maybe I'll stop complaining! Until then, I'll kepp posting this post!

Thanks!
Coldfact

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

I see my reply was removed??!!! And don't say, that only coldfact has problem with tracking. What about tracking posts? There are few with no answer.. just seems like be forgotten.
When I calibrate vr920, everything looks good, but in game? Masacre.

"Many users have no problems.." - what kind of message is this? What does it do with problem of coldfact user? NOTHING.

I'll try to remove all things which generates strong magnetic field, perhaps it would help... I updated all soft and no possitive results.

There is only Quick Start Guide.. only 3 pages of information.. for that kind of product and problems which buyers can meet, there should be Nomal Guide.

-------------------------------

After next few hours of calibrating I removed all things which generates strong magnetic field and now it works! But still no fun of it.

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

@coldfact: Actually, we have many thousands of customers who do not find the tracking unusable. If you are completely dissatisfied with the VR920, most, if not all, sellers offer refunds. We are confident that we have provided the gaming community with the highest quality HMD on the market, but we understand that not everyone will be satisfied with it. It seems that you are very unhappy, so perhaps the technology is not yet up to your standards.

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

Another thing.. I have read accounts of hard-core iwear users who have successfully written their own scripts which solve the Yaw jitter/shake issue. I am no hard-core programmer, but why can't the Vuzix developers incorporate the codes of these guys in their next driver release and make their VR920 product more desirable for people who would like a realistic head-tracking experience? Every person I have spoken to find head tracking in most games unusable, and a bit like having Parkinson's disease. Surely, SURELY there is a way of stopping the God Awful jitter?!?!?

I have used a head tracking device that cost about 3 times more than the VR920 (but about 3 years ago!) and it had NO such problems with yaw, noe pitch and roll for that matter... So why does a more modern piece of kit have problems that an older piece of kit is immune to? Makes no sense to me.... bad design and they can't fix it with software, that is what I am starting to think.... It could be such a great product, but essential features that don't work properly have let it down in a BIG BIG way.....

Regards
Lawrence

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

Hi,

Thanks for the explanation of yaw/magnetic field relationship.

You mentioned using the lastest software (this may be appropriate for another thread).A few days ago I downloaded and installed the new VR920 software (v2.3). Everything seemed ok until I tried to run the iwear monitor, Nothing seemed to happen! So I tried it again; eventually I noticed multiple entries of the iwear monitor.exe in task manager. Also, at random intervals when I launched the iwear monitor, I would get a message along the lines of "there are no supported platforms installed, Opperation (or option) not allowed". Not once did the iwae monitor actually become visable, and therefore I was not able to use any of my installed games in the supported list on the iwear monitor and nothing worked. So eventually I had to reinstall the old v2.2 version which again worked in terms of loading the monitor and indicating what games it had detected and had support for etc. I am running the latest firmware for my VR920 so that can't be the reason.

Any help on why the new version wont work for me would be great!

I have actually found a way to use head tracking in Crysis, although it isn't all that great AT ALL but at least doen't jitter and shake all over the place. I use the release of GlovePie that supports the VR920 extensions. I load the fakemouse script and add a Smooth command in the Yaw line, eg: after DirectInputX += smooth, then open brackets and close them at the very emd of that line.

That way you get your mouse emulated in Crysis (and out of Crysis in Windows of course) but it is far from ideal and I'd rather just use the real mouse.

Honestly, unless this yaw smoothing issue is satisfactorily resolved, I am selling my VR920 on eBay because from what i have seen, too many other people experience exactly the same problem, and I'm not going to build a magnetic proof room just to use the iwear :). Any offers? :)

Regards
Lawrence

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

If anything is causing your mouse to move an inch or two at a time, then your mouse sensitivity is likely set much too high for this situation. My first suggestion would be to lower your mouse sensitivity, both in Windows, as well as in-game.

A couple degrees of jitter in the yaw in the calibrator is normal, and will not stop until and unless the earth stops rotating; it is sensing the ambient magnetic field around you, which is eternally in a state of flux. The software then smooths that jitter.

Also, it would be a good idea to upgrade to the newest software; we are constantly upgrading our support, including the filtering.

RE: Terrible Yaw jitter

I have exactly the same problem...

I also tried to round the smoothed value in GlovePIE. This obviously results in stepwise rotation, which causes less headaches than the jitter :)

Does anybody have a solution for this?

Terrible Yaw jitter

Hi All,

I hope you can help me to solve a problem that is seriously causing me to loose all faith in the VR920. The Stereoscopic display is really cool, but the head tracking is a complete nightmare! I have tried to calibrate it so many times, using every method described here on the forums, but every time I do it, I get a yaw jitter in the callibration tool, even though the pitch and roll are totally stable. The best I can get it is a jitter of between 1 and 3 points. The result of this is that head tracking in games like Crysis is simple unusable! It shakes so badly from left to right (addmitidly by small degrees, but really fast) that it is just impossible to use. Even using GlovePie with the VR920 scripts, using the fakemouse makes the mouse pointer jitter from left to right by an inch or so in Windows, really quickly with slow pointer drift. I have tried to use the "smooth" command in GlovePie and this does help, but the jitter is still apparent, and anyway it doesn't seem to help much in Crysis.

Even with the best possible callibration, if I sit the iwear down on the desk so it doesn't move AT ALL, there is still yaw jitter displayed in the callibration tool. I have tried every USB port on my PC, and a different PC in a totally different location to no avail, so it's not

I am using firmware 1.10 and software/drivers version 2.2

What can I do??? Surely this can't be normal otherwise why would they even sell such a thing??

Please help!!! I would love to use smooth head tracking in Crysis but at the moment I am very disapointed.

Thanks!

Coldfact
