True, 6DOF would be amazing. The only downside, though, is that it's still wired. The wire already gets in my way with only 3DOF, let alone 6DOF. D:

I'd love for someone to make a product that will have:

AMOLED screen, widescreen resolution, HDMI/DVI, Stereo, 6DOF, Properly working headtracking

I don't think going on DVI/HDMI will be a good solution, so far VR920 can be used with laptops which almost always have VGA output, but it's rare for notebooks to have even DVI.

And for stationery PC I don't see a problem to use DVI-VGA connector.

P.S. Even eeePC have VGA, and it can be used with VR920, for mobile computing.

Hmm.. still no announcement or any real information on the VR1440.. But if it will be priced the same as currently the vr920 is with better tracking and 800x600 per eye, I would buy it, but not for a higher price..

oh and rethink the VGA connector (so go for HMDI)

Me too. What about a tilt switch or using the tracking device for on/off? Let's say they are switched off as soon as the glasses are flipped horizontally :hehe:for more than 10 seconds (try that with your glasses on!).:D

I really hope they have added an on/off-switch to the VR1440.
Since it seems they are planning to release the Wrap 920AV this summer (according to their website), I wonder if they are planning to release the VR1440 around the same time, or if is planned for a later release (since they havent made a page on their website for it yet).

Cool, It's great to receive a tracker spec's, It will be very cool if it would be possible to walk with VR1440 inside virtual room :)

Interesting! Regarding authenticity of the picture, it does look like a VR920 but with different ear plugs. I guess that would be hard to fake. I think it would be strange though for an authentic picture of the unit to turn up before an official products page from Vuzix.
Where did you find that pic and the info? On the main site it's hosted I didnt find anything.

It does say it has a 6DOF-tracker alright.
The site it's hosted on looks credible to me. This looks great!

I don't know if this is a real pic of the VR1440. I hope the Stereo Camera Pair fits on these.

With the Stereo Camera Pair I would think AR would work better on the VR1440 and the Wrap 920AV would make a better HUD.

That site also says the VR1440 has a 6dof tracker.
Has anyone found anything on the FOV of the VR1440 yet?

800 x 600 It's not bad really, If price will be still less than 1k bucks that would be nice. Z800 is 800 x 600 without any downscaling cost about 1.5k.
I'm really looking on 6DOF - that's the great stuff that can add immersion, because position tracking will allow us to experience dynamic depth cues such as motion parallax in our games and virtual environments.

i dont know why people want higher resolution. it wont make much of a different when u think about it. the main change needed is fov, eliminating the view of anything but the screen is what would make a vr headset good

I was hoping for higher rez. I guess it all depends on the fov but I think 8x6 is still too low and a lot of people will be put off by it. If they bump up the fov to at least 50 degrees it might not be too bad. I know I'm asking for a lot ;)

Indeed! Higher resolution and larger FOV with 6DOF tracking would be really awesome! :)
I wonder wether they are going for widescreen with the VR1440 (it seems to me like widescreen is becoming the norm at least). I guess that would add to the immersion as well.
I am also very curious as to how the see through optics on the Wrap 920AV will work.
I really hope they release some more info soon. :)

Hi to all,

yeah it will be nice if someone from vuzix enlighten us about the specs of this new glasses
it seem that they have higher resolution, but what im really looking for is wider FOV.

After all the cool anouncements and support for 3d this past CES i've decided to build a rig and screen dedicated to 3d this year, probably with the nvidia solution. this new Vuzix model vr 1440 could be a nice adition if it delivers, i hope so.

Yep, new Wrap AV920, and upcoming VR1440 - It's great news indeed!
That would be nice to see well-done hi-def and AR solutions on the market.

Dont know if you have already seen it, but I read the brochure for the Wrap 920AV today (the one under Product Sheets on the Vuzix website), and in there I saw something very interesting. :) It mentioned a new one coming called VR1440 and says it's going to give us the resolution we've been asking for. This really got me curious, since I dont see anything about it on their products page yet (it's only in the brochure it seems).
The Wrap 920AV looks interesting as well. Too bad the brochure doesnt seem to reveal it's resolution and such.

Can anyone from Vuzix at least confirm that there is a new version of the VR glasses in the works? I really do want a product like this, but I am willing to wait for a newer, better model that incorporates a lot of the suggestions people have been making to Vuzix. What's the status????
