Today I received the vuzix s-video cable and can see the monitor output through the video glasses so all fine so far....

I imagined that I could use the stereoscopic avi player to play 3d films on my laptop and view then through the AV920. I can see the films, but they don't look 3d to me! I am trying the skydiving film....

Am i totally misunderstanding the product? If it's just a case of settings within the player and the glasses, can anyone advise me as what to try for a full 3d viewing experience?

Many thanks in advance!!!!

Product recommendations

Which iWear product and cables would be required to view full screen video and audio when connected to the following devices:

1. a new iPhone 3G
2. a year old iPod Classic
3. a two year old MacBook (via MINI DVI port)

There is no need for gaming or computer interaction capability, this will be strictly for entertainment viewing of DVDs and video podcasts. The output port on my laptop is a DVI, so i have to use the adapter included to change it to VGA. I have a normal TFT monitor and that works perfectly fine through the laptop, so i know it isn't the port itself.

If it helps the graphics card in the laptop is a Nvidia 7800GTX GO.

Any ideas?

Ive got the multiple monitor managing program "Ultramon" and ive tried it with Ultramon closed and ive also tried "enable secondary monitor" in Ultramon. My wife has very kindly given me a AV920 for Christmas and they work very well when watching movies through my iPhone. I would like to use more features of them like watching 3D movies and playing the occasional game so wondered about buying a laptop a decent enough graphics card.

Has anyone got an affordable spec laptop in mind that I could buy (I would prefer to spend only about £400-500 I'm in the UK) I have a PS3 and xbox 360 so gaming would be nice but it isn't the main drive for me. I suppose watching 3D content would be the main thing. Are there any specific 3D gaming cards that I should look out for?

Just to clear things up for me, does the AV920 have any ability to work with PSP or PS3's?

Many thanks and Happy Christmas to you all :)

Help for VR920 buying info

Hi. This "standard" 3D technology uses interlacing filtering (even and non-even lines filtering) to seperate the left and right images. On PAL systems (Europe) there are 625 lines (576 visible) at 50 HZ, on NTSC systems (America) 525 lines (486 visible) at 60 HZ. Half of them make an (left or right) image.

Connecting your AVxxx glasses to a PC (using S-video or composite) won't work out of the box for 3D content since your PC uses totally different resolutions (800x600 e.g.). The eDimensional drivers, available at http://www.edimensional.com/support_updates.php, do however create very nice interlaced 3D content. Best of all, they even work under Windows Vista (the Nvidia drivers won't if they don't detect any special hardware like the VR920 glasses). There is more software available for creating interlaced content. Have a look at:

http://stereo.jpn.org/eng/

The "StereoMovie Maker" really works very well for creating your own stereo movies. Try it out with some standard anaglyph 3D glasses! Sample movies can be found on the same website.

However, back to the problem... Ok you've created a 3D movie. Viewing it on a PC with VR920 glasses won't be a problem. But how to view them with the AV920 glasses on your PC, iPod or TV? Is there any way to create a DVD for your DVD player? Any solutions?

Options for using with HTC Touch Pro

The HTC Touch Pro (11pin mini usb) has a TV Out Cable (and application) Left, Right audio and Video RCA / Phono connections to a TV, which should work with the IWear's Composite audio/video cable (RCA cable).

Is there an optional cable to go direcetly to the 11pin mini usb on the HTC Touch Pro?

Either way, what would be the appropriate version of the IWear for this use, using the PDA as a video/audio source?

Thanks!

Difficulty deciding what to choose.

I've spent the last 2 days almost solidly trying to decipher which HMDs would meet my taste. I then plugged the unit
in, and it all worked as it was supposed to. The 3d games included are very good, but I was having
problems playing my 3d dvd's. I have a NUVIEW 3d attachment for my camcorder, which records in frame sequential stereo
3d. I managed to get around this problem by installing new drivers for my Nvidia 6200 video card,
which were 162.5 drivers, and 162.5 stereo 3d drivers. This all worked, and now I can play frame sequential
3d dvd's using 'Stereoscopic Player'. Although the 3d effect is good, I feel it could be much better
if the guys at Vizux came up with a native 3d dvd player (like the jps viewer). I think they would sell
a lot more VR920's, as there is no way to view frame sequential dvd's on lcd screen's or TV's, and a lot of
people own the NUVIEW attachment. This is the problem I had, as shutter glasses won't work on LCD display's.
Overall, I think the VR920 is a great piece of equipment for the price. I got mine on Ebay from Amy Pearsall
for $315.00 plus $41.00 post to Australia. Great service, great price.
By the way, I also own a Cybermaxx HMD which I purchased in 1994. It was 3 times the price. The VR920 is 10 times better!:)

Immersion.

New here, new to the VR920. Not (yet) an owner. Hi.

I've been very interested in this product since I discovered it and thought immediately 3D HMD + AvP2 Marine Campaign = LOL Scary. I'd like to know if anyone has tried that game? I don't know what version of DirectX it uses thus I don't know if the IZ3D driver will work if the standard Vuzix one does not - I'm building a rig soon and it'll have an ATI 4870X2 in it - so no ancient Nvidia 3D support for me.

Ok, so what interested me far more after some weeks gradual research and browsing on these and other forums is the VR aspect. Immersion and that. Johnny Mnemonic is in many respects a poor film - but I regard it very highly. I am concerned just how immersive the VR920 is as I have seen the screen size described as "an A4 sheet held at arms length". Of course, this is relative; we don't all have arms of equal length for one, but that does seem kinda small. I'll be getting a 24" screen with my rig, for example. Also, just how good can certain newer games look at 800x600 downscaled? Not that, I imagine. And the human FOV is essentially widescreen, yet the VR920 is 4:3?

But I digress. What I orginially wanted to discuss was the use of such devices as the P5 Glove (or two!) and the OCZ NIA - or instead the upcoming brain-machine interface device from Emotiv Systems. This, what with alleged 3D desktop adaptions created for Windows by 3rd parties, how close are we to the fiction of the aforementioned film? Or, indeed, sitting inside a virtual room surrounded by information? Bumptop - a physics based Windows desktop replacement in closed beta looks to be very interesting if paired with a P5 Glove (or two!) and the VR920. Although, these "3D" desktop replacements are, as I understand it, rendered only in 2D as if it were on a generic monitor. The interface might be 3D - but your depiction of it is not. Would it be possible to view one's adapted desktop in true 3D - with depth? Surely these applications might utilise DirectX and if so - could be made compatible?

I am just in awe of what all this could mean not only for games but for workflow, organisation and general experience.

My Experience of VR920 with Crysis

Hopefully I upgrade my gaming rig and Crysis started to run on my PC fluently on maximum settings.
And of course I started to play it with my VR920, and what can I say...
It's really great stuff to play with! :)

Default iWear stereo settings doesn't work good for me (it was very hard to aim), so I experimented with them and here is the best result I've reached (edit values of VR920Dx9Stereo.cfg):

Method=5, IPD_View=0.015,IPD_Menu=0.00,Manual_VSync=0,Locking=0,QueryGPU=1,LogFile=0,AutoIPD=0, ExpMax=0.11, ExpRate=0.001, ExpPoint=0.10

Also, I changed game's FOV in order to get more immersive visual. Default game FOV is 75 degrees, VR920's FOV is 32 degree, but using 32 degree FOV in game - make it very hard to play. So I found, that is best for myself setup FOV to 50 degrees.

For this you can open console in game by pressing "~" button, and type:
con_restricted=0
cl_fov=50

For non-jittering headtracking I used GlovePie, if you have no jitter with default VR920 tracking then you can use it.
Hope this info would be useful for somebody, and you will enjoy play Crysis in VR920 as I did :)

P.S. I still thinking how can I use my gamepad or P5-Glove to increase immersion...

How to get the best quality and comfort from your VR920

Please sticky this (or remove if it goes against some policy)
hi everyone,

I have had the vr920 for a few weeks now and after some investigating i have found the way to make it compatable with almost any game.

SOFTWARE
===================

3D Stereo
---------------
You will need to get the latest driver from iz3d.com which is free. This is a really well made app which allows you to view any directx game in full 3d. It is configurable, you can change almost any setting. I have tried VR920 drivers 3d and if you like that you will be blown away by how good the iz3d one is. It does work on any game (almost), the problem is that some games are rendered incorrectly, this is usuall fixed by changing the settings within games but sometimes you just habe to wait for a newer revision of the app. I say that the app is free but it really just has a 4 month unrestricted trial period with any device not made by iz3d ie. the VR920.

EDIT: NB: If the image isn't rendering properly, the eyes might be swapped. To fix this press CTRL+F8.

EDIT: Also, if you find that your games are crashing when changing display quality settings it means that the IZ3D app is causing this. All you need to do is either disable it from the taskbar (right-click) or open it up and disable it from the GUI

Head Tracking
---------------
You will also need to get glovepie (google it and the address will come up). This covers the trackir (trackir.com for compatable games) emulation so most games work with the head-tracking. GlovePIE is configured by scripts so here are a few pointers to get you started. You will need to open the FakeTrackIR script from the GlovePIE vr920 folder. One majorly useful perk of the software is the "recentre" command. If you un"rem" the line down the bottom of the page of script, if you say the word "recentre" the yaw will center on where your head is facing.

the "smooth" command - the "smooth" command should go before a bracketed command, such as (i might have it the wrong way round): faketrackiryaw = smooth(vr920yaw). This command will set up a curve which will solve jittering when paying some games.

Calculations - With GlovePIE a lot of games are not using the right amount of sensitivity. The way to fix this is to use calculation:
* = multiply. as in vr920yaw*2. This will double how fast the head moves in game when you move your head
/ = devide. as in vr920yaw/2. This will half how fast the head moves in game when you move your head.
You can also use decimal calculations the get the tuning just right.
You can also set up profiles for GlovePIE to use, it's not hard to figure out if you've worked with scripts before. Let me know if you want some help and i'll write something up when I get home I'm at work right now but if you contact me through this I'll be able to help out.

EDIT: I'll paste my script tonight (hopefully) and put pointers and comments all over it to give you a better understanding.

GETTING THE BEST QUALITY IMAGE
================================
This will be only for people who don't wear glasses, sorry. I have turned the little rubber nose thing around so it does not have any contact with me. The two rubber probes that fit behind your ears (or rather dig into your skull!) can actually bend and it makes it so much more comforable. Now with the two supports missing the unit will fall off if you don't tighten the strap but once you do you get an amazingly better picture through the unit. I believe this is more comfortable but each to their own.

I think that's it for now.

Let me know if you have any questions.

No luck with head tracking in FSX?

I received the VR920 as a Christmas present last year, but support for Vista was not available. I then left for Iraq shortly after, and have recently returned. I'd like to get my iWear glasses back out now that Vista compatibility is here.

I've loaded the latest software, firmware, and drivers, and I can see the screen in the glasses, but I get no head tracking in FSX. Let's see if I can list all relevant actions, and see if someone can tell me what I'm missing.

System Specs:
Dell Laptop, XPS M1330
Vista Premium Home 32 bit
FSX w/SP1
GeForce 8400M GS

From the Calibrator Specs:
Calibrator version: 1.2.1.1
IWEARDRV.DLL Version: 2.0.1.1
IWRSTDRV.DLL version: 2.1.0.3
Firmware version: 1.110.104:13

From the iWearMonitor program: (MS FSX is listed in the "Enabled Titles" column)
Installation version: (2.2) ...VR920 is the Primary Adapter
Vuzix Stereoscopy Enabled and ready.
nVidia stereoscopy Version(?): Display Version(10 1.43) . . .No Stereoscopic drivers installed
Tracking Status: Yaw,Pitch,Roll (149.6,-6.1,171.1) (5451)
STATUS: Installation...ok...

In the application text for FSX, it tells me a bunch of files that must be present within various FSX directories, and everything is where it is supposed to be. Required lines to be added to XML files are also there.

The only thing that I'm questioning is the following line:
4. Run your MS Flight Simulator X as normal.
The First time running Flight simulator X, will ask if you wish to proceed loading the
IWRDLLTracker.dll pluggin.

I did not get any prompts to load the pluggin.

I searched the forums, and found this relevant thread, and that prompted me with one more question. A line from that thread:
The first thing is called EXE.xml, and it is hard-coded to the default FS-X installation directory path. I had to hack this file to get FS-X to properly load the "IWRConsoleTracking.exe" program (copied to the Gauges folder along with its .manifest file), which sends the X/Y/Z head movement data to FS-X via SimConnect. This is because I have FS-X installed to c:\fsx.
I also have my FSX installed to C:\FSX. I found EXE.XML somewhere deep in the SDK folder structure. Does this file need to be "hacked"? If so... uhhh... how? And also... I have the IWRConsoleTracking.exe.manifest file in my FSX gauges folder, but not a "IWRConsoleTracking.exe" file (without the manifest extension). Nor can I find that file anywhere.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jimmy

Glasses kept losing signal... oops, my fault!

deleted, but the thread shall remain as it contains helpful information

///edited by TechSupport

VR920 Extras?

Just ordered one and I can't wait but wondering if there are any other accessories to enhance the experience like gloves etc...? Of course, only d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll are included. Is there any way which a DirectX 6 game can use these ?

I've searched in my system (Windows XP 32-bit) for d3d6.dll but it doesn't exist, so I'm guessing that any DirectX 6 calls somehow get directed to d3d9.dll. I've tried the vuzix d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll in my game folder (where the game exe is) one at a time and it doesn't seem to work either. I notice there is a config file too which needs to be put in there, and I've tried a few of the example ones provided, but still no luck.

Can anyone offer any input here on this ? I notice there are a few other posts dotted around the forum from those doing similar experiments, so not sure where I should have posted this, but it would be nice to get the Vuzix drivers to work with this game (and I'll be using GlovePIE for a custom tracking setup - thanks Carl...).

Having never seen (yet) the Vuzix stereo drivers in action (I've only seen the nVidia ones...) I don't know how good they are and what I'm missing...

I'd just like to say also that the firmware update I did last night to the latest is a VAST improvement in visual quality over the original firware (that my unit shipped with) from probably over a year ago. I've been testing a set of VR920 on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. We're using a desktop Sim application that students will take home with them. So, instead of reading about the HMD in manuals, and looking at graphics for symbols and cues...we have the actual symbology to immerse the student in... at a low/ medium fidelity of course.
So here is how I got the concept and set it up. In the real world- when flying jets at night using NVGs, your out-the-window view of the world is through ANVs-9s. Anytime you work within the cockpit, you have to drop you eye gaze below the NVGs to interact with displays/ controls. I want to employ the VR920 one the desktop Sim in a similar fashion.
Looking through the VR920s gives me my out-the-window w/ HMD overlay. Look below the VR920 to a touch screen laptop will provide interaction with the jet's touch screen cockpit. So far, it has worked like a champ. The concept anyway; all the pilots can immediately identify with the scan and interface required. For the price of a laptop and some goggles I can (low fidelity) immerse you into the environment you'll expect to see in the full dome Sim, and jet… at a fraction of the price. And much more effective than a tech manual... so how can I improve upon it?? Still some issue to sort out.
I'm still taking a beating with the YAW jitter. I've read the posts as best I can to calibrate correctly. However- most posts point to the Yaw jitter as an anomaly and not the norm. I have yet to fly a sortie without the Yaw jumping around, some days are better than others. I understand we’re dealing with some magnetic anomalies, shielding and possibly some issues within the room I'm operating in. Still, can you get the goggles to a point where you experience no jitter in the Z axis? I've played with increasing the dead zones in our software... if you zero out the sensitivity to the point you don't catch the small magnetic jump... you build an inherent lag into the tracker that is more frustrating that the jitter. Is this sort of precision just not attainable at this price point? Are we talking about ISENSE trackers for what I need? (Sorry to mention another brand on here) That is the main technical issue.
Next- this is more a desire than a requirement. 3D Stereoscopy- I understand the concept, have seen some graphics. Pretty sweet. What would I have to do to try an incorporate something like this into the F-35 simulation? How do I go about finding what sort of hardware requirements I need to even attempt it? More to the point- what do I need to tell the software programmers to go do to make this work in the Sim?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. CAVEAT! Please answer all questions as if your talking to pilot (read: software idiot) and not a programmer!
Really enjoy the forum, thanks for the help.
r/ Jason "Mac" McAlister
F-35 Pilot Training

LOTRO not recognised on my computer

Hi there - newbie here.
Have had the Vuzix 920Vr for a day now and the stereoscopic stuff is great!

I really want to use is with Lord of the Rings online, but even though the game is installed on my system, the monitor will not recognise it is there.

Has anyone had the same problem?
Is there a workaround?

Many thanks.

iWear and sport

Has anybody used an iWear while riding a home trainer to watch DVD?
