I was holding back getting a VR920 because everyone was saying it was no longer supported but if the older viewer still works then I shall hold back no longer.

As second life is the main reason I'm getting a VR920 I was just wowonderingoes anyone know how support for windows 7 looks? I know SL works fine in it but dodoesn'the vuzix software and does the SL native viewer system work?
On my system Second Life version 1.19/20/21 all work with win7-64, headtracking, stereo, al functional, but bad performance and a lot of "hickups" (wich off course could be related to my system, 2,4ghz C2D, 4gb, 8800gts, 24mb inet) in terms of stability its good, and also all features work.

I Downgraded to winxpsp3-32 and the performance has slightly improved, but its still not there yet. Moving around and or movement around me gets the pageflipping out of sync. (and thats 800x600 with 164m view distance all other settings medium, while i usually run 1280x1024 with everything full open with no problem)

I'll try my 7900GT with the compatible NVIDIA stereo drivers, and also the 8800 with IZ3D drivers and see if i can get it to work (Second Life is not mentioned in compatibility lists for either of them), and what it does performancewise.

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

Thats great news. Linden Labs has decided to no longer restrict old viewers, the viewers just don't allow certain things going back (like back past windlight)

Been happily using the native viewer for months now, but I talked with a vuzix rep earlier who said the design team already had a new client and were waiting to release it. That was two months ago...

Anyway, you need 1.21.6 binaries already to run it, which can be found here.

Enjoy! I think LL does not block it because it's a nonstandard client once you mod it.

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

Oh yes sorry i knew you were talking about the native support here but until we know if there will be an updated support version I was looking for alternatives to get the full stereo from SL. Unfortunatly Im running a 8600GT

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

Sure you can use NVidia stereo in SL, if you have 6XXX or 7XXX GeForce. We are talking about iWear support here, a special SL viewer that allow to use stereo and head tracking on any video card.

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

So there currently is no support for the vr920 and second life even using nvidia stereoscopic drivers?

Bit annoying I was waiting to get a pair of vr920 just for SL use and now I have the spare money its no longer supported >.<

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

@jasonh: you can use the head tracking in 2d when in mouse look, using an external program called glove pie. that's all for now, sadly...

@mnemonic: i've sent a mail to vuzix support some time ago, and got no response so far...

EDIT: releasing the source of the sl client modifications is the way to go, imho. The sdk from vuzix is already available, and i think many people will love and be able to keep supporting the vr920 once the code is public.

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

Yes, we need support of new viewers, or some kind of universal patch for SL.
Any new from Vuzix?

RE: About the future of SecondLife support

I'm also keen to get an answer to this. I'd like to buy a VR920, and use with Second Life would be a major reason. If there's no SL support then that would be a deal-breaker for me.
In the absence of native support in the viewer, is there any kind of support at all, e.g. in mouselook mode? or does it totally fail to work?

Given that the SL viewer is open source, perhaps Vuzix could release the source code for their modifications under GPL or something so that they can be integrated into the viewer codebase?

About the future of SecondLife support

the iWareMonitor supports secondlife up to version 1.21.6 which has been discontinued and logins with it have been disabled as of 5th of august (as stated here).
I'm really interested in getting support again and it has been an important point in deciding to buy the glasses
Is vuzix willing to add support for newer secondlife clients?
